About Consett Heart

We are a group of dedicated volunteers who came together out of a love of our local heritage and the arts. From initial talks and a need for action the Consett and District Heritage and Arts CIC was formed in 2019. Our campaign through 2019 and into 2020 enabled us to save the St John Ambulance Hall in John Street Consett for our community with major assistance from The Project Genesis Trust. Many of us had worked together in different ways for over 10 years, so know each other’s strengths and weaknesses allowing us to work well together as a team. Our backgrounds are diverse, which gives a rich tapestry of ideas to build upon. We took over occupancy of the Ambulance Hall in Autumn 2020.

Our vision for the former Ambulance Hall is to work with the residents of Consett and surrounding areas and other like-minded businesses to create a better, more inclusive, place to live. We want our centre and events to celebrate our cultural heritage while also providing an encouraging environment for artistic education and exploration; and in turn fostering a welcoming atmosphere that celebrates our diversity and acknowledges our differences.

We want Consett Heart to be a place of innovation, giving new insights into the area’s heritage and artistic past while still engaging with the developing art world and current trends. In doing so, part of our mission with Consett Heart is to host a permanent micro museum along with a space to host gallery exhibitions, live performances, workshops in addition to talks and displays focused on Consett’s cultural roots and heritage.
